Built in 1857, six small cottages eventually merged into a single building, now home to the Curiosity Bookshop. Opened in 1990 by published author Liz Howard it is now owned and run by son Christopher. Covering 500 square metres, it is one of the largest independent bookshops in the North of England, with a huge stock range to delight the discerning browser. Local books feature prominently, the owner’s
family being very familiar with local history, having lived in the town for at least two hundred years.
For those requiring personal service, orders can be taken for any book in print, along with orders for local schools and businesses. A wealth of children’s books and first edition signed copies make the Curiosity Bookshop a treasure trove for book lovers everywhere, with a friendly welcome in store and a premium service on line.
